07:51 am - Ditko Halloween Master Post

To celebrate Halloween this year, I've posted a bunch of my favorite Steve Ditko horror comics covers, all from his Charlton days. I never seem to remember that Ditko's birthday is a couple of days after Halloween (On Nov. 2nd, he turns 82).Well, I remembered this time, and although there isn't a terribly strong connection between both of these themes, it's more reason to post some Ditko. Additionally, one of his classic collaborations with Archie Goodwin, "Room With a View", is also included here. Just follow the cut for horror covers and comics at their finest.

From Eerie #3 (May, 1966), "Room With a View" is Ditko's first comic job for Warren Publishing. His collaborations with writer Archie Goodwin are some of the best comics, "Room With a View" being one of the top ones. It's been reprinted before and I'm sure it's floating around somewhere in the etherweb, but here it is anyway!

Happy Halloween, everyone! Happy 82nd Birthday, Steve Ditko!

Those Charlton covers are awesome...and somehow, the cheap printing and garish colors just make them *better*. Dikto really understood how to draw for reproduction, whether 4-color or black and white, his stuff always looked great.
i think ditko's charlton era is my favorite of his works. please tell me he drew a cover with a kitchen sink in it because that's all that's missing from here.
Oh man, that "Beyond the Grave" cover with the soldier and the general...I'm stunned.
Makes me want to go home and draw immediately.
Love Ditko as always! Nice to see some bold, brushy covers by him!
every time i've read "room with a view" i feel an overwhelming sense of claustrophobia. that must mean it's excellent. thanks for posting these great fun covers!
Beautiful..I've never seen most of these covers before now...so much to still learn from and dig on from Ditko. That last panel from "room with a view reminds me a good deal of Hogarth's "Tarzan". |
